Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Very Good. Although only children at the time, the Second World War had a permanent effect on the schoolboys who lived through the conflict. Watching a country preparing for war and then being immersed in the horrors of the Blitz brought encounters and events that some will never forget. Now in their seventies and eighties, many are revisiting their memories of this period of upheaval and strife for the first time. As he fully immersed himself in rural life in the little village of Pulborough, the author witnessed some extraordinary events, from finding an injured German airman in the woods, to watching Bailey bridges being erected in the fortified village and observing the Battle of Britain raging overhead. After four years of highs and lows, evacuation had a lasting effect, and although he could not wait to return to London, the author moved back to Sussex as soon as he was old enough. Due to it proximity to the south coast, West Sussex was a dangerous place in the wartime years, and this poignant book documents events indelibly inscribed on a generations minds. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

This book details Egyptian magic through a series of documented cases of magic, giving an in-depth look into the practices and powers of Egyptian magicians. From the summoning of the dead to the foretelling of the future, this book explores the mainstays of Egyptian magic through accounts by ancient Greek and Roman historians. Exploring such topics as trance communication, dream interpretation, and the concept of a unified divine universal power, this book presents a comprehensive breakdown and analysis of ancient Egyptian magic practices. From these ancient accounts, the book reflects on the concept of the divine and the role of belief in creating the conditions for magical practices to thrive. In doing so, the book provides a thorough overview of Egyptian magic, shedding light on its significance in the religious and social life of ancient Egypt and prompting reflection on the very nature of magic and belief. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the relationship between the Waldensian poetry of the 13th to 16th centuries and that of the Protestant Vaudois. Drawing upon religious poems and prose essays from the era, the author argues that the Waldensians were the earliest authors of vernacular poetry in Europe. Despite centuries of persecution, Waldensian poetry retains vestiges of the Latin language not present in medieval or church Latin. The author contends that this indicates that their poetry was preserved faithfully over time, suggesting that it represents a poetic tradition that may stretch back to the ninth or tenth centuries. This book provides a valuable contribution to our understanding of the development of European poetry and the history of the Waldensians. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
