SOLMA-RI: WITH NOWHERE TO RUN, WE STOOD AND FOUGHT An unforgettable true story of the Korean War, this vivid account of the retreat from Pyongyang and the battle of Solma-ri is told by a British soldier who fought beside his American allies under the United Nations flag. The 1st Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment was an old established regiment of regulars, but no previous experience could have prepared them for the harshness of the Korean War. What began as an operation to hunt guerrillas in the mountains north of Kaesong, just across the 38th Parallel, turned into one of the war's most desperate battles. This cruel, man-on-the-ground portrait of some of the bitterest fighting in recent history clearly recounts both the tragedy and the heroism of brave men at war.
