Faulkner at Nagano… is a record of William Faulkner's visit to Japan in August 1955, where he lectured and engaged in discussions about literature and culture. His trip was sponsored by the U.S. State Department, likely as part of a broader effort to promote American democratic ideals through cultural exchange. During his time in Nagano, Faulkner reflected on themes of resilience and recovery, drawing parallels between post-war Japan and the American South after the Civil War. He also addressed Japanese youth, emphasizing his belief in human perseverance and the power of literature. Condition of hardcover: Faint age toning, with offset to endpapers from dustjacket.
