Eric Yates-Owen Collection who purchased a collection of books and ceramics by Rie and Hans Coper from the collection of Robin and Heather Tanner which was dispersed by Phillips, Bath on 12th February 1996.Robin Tanner, the etcher, educationist and his wife Heather, supported the crafts movement in Britain and formed deep friendship with Lucie Rie and Hans Coper in the early 1950's. Collecting their works and commissioning pieces. In the mid 1960's, Tanner and his wife were instrumental in the founding of the Crafts Study Centre which eventually opened in 1977. First initiated in 1967 with Tanner inheriting a large collection fo work from hand-blockprinter, Phyllis Barron and her partner Dorothy Larcher. Unable to find of home for the extensive collection left by Barron, Museums not interested in crafts. Not wanting to break up the collection, Tanner and Murial Rose, author, expert in crafts, decided to find a permanent home for the collection. Many crafts men and women offered to lodge their work at the centre. The centre opened in 1977, the Tanners also included some of their own archives from other artists forming the initial collection of the Crafts Study Center. Signed by Illustrator(s).
