Hard Cover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. Arthur David McCormick Ilustrador. Limited Edition of 225 copies. Limited Edition of 225 copies. Hard cover, 8vo in publisher's orange/yellow cloth boards with an illustrated dust jacket. With Introduction by Editor Richard Dalby. COLLATION: xii,173, [5] pp. CONDITION: Fine in Fine dust jacket. ** Modern limited edition of stories by the prolific writer, Gertrude Minnie Robins (1861-1939), who later published under her married name, Mrs. Baillie Reynolds. She began telling stories at a young age, encouraged by her brother who gained popularity by telling her spooky stories to his classmates at boarding school. ** Eight of the stories in this collection are from the first and second editions of "The Relations and What They Related" (1902), in which each guest at a Christmas family gathering tells a story to keep themselves amused, while waiting for their wealthy cousin to arrive from Canada. ** The stories include supernatural mysteries with a twist, reminiscent of Roald Dahl's "Tales of the Unexpected". They are: "The Relations and What They Related": "The Man With No Face - Dr Hardy (the Consulting Physician)'s Story", "The House Which Was Rent Free - Mrs Locke (the Young Matron)'s Story", "The Roman Road - Ralph Baring (the Country Solicitor)'s Story", "The Blathwaytes - Afatha Mayne (the High-School Teacher)'s Story", "The Weirdale Assize - Mr Hobson (the Elderly Cousin)'s Story", "A Twilight Experience - Stainley Rivers (the Minor Poet)'s Story", "The Legend of Deshon - Mrs Hogben (the Hosier's Wife)'s Story", "A Chance of Travel - Mrs Evelyn Baring's Story". ** Also included in the volume are four other stories: "The Haunting of White Gates", "The Old Card-Table", "A Witch-Burning", and "The Reluctant Inheritance", and a 1916 essay on Mrs Baillie Reynolds, "Modern Story-Writing", by the editor of the "Quiver" magazine. ** With the original illustrations by Arthur David McCormick (1860-1943). McCormick was made famous by his artwork for travel books, and was the artist with Sir Martin Conway's 1892 expedition to the Himalayas, and with Clinton T. Dent's 1895 expedition to the Caucasus Mountains. ** Sarob Press is a small press which has published reprints of classic ghost and horror stories, as well as contemporary authors. This book is part of a series reprinting works by neglected, but worthy, woman ghost-story writers, the so-called "Mistresses Of The Macabre". Book.

Hard Cover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. Paul Lowe Ilustrador. Limited Edition, No. 92 of 300 copies. Limited Edition No. 92 of 300 copies. Hard cover, 8vo in publisher's grey/green cloth boards with an illustrated dust jacket. With full-page illustrations by Artist Paul Lowe, and Introduction by Editor Richard Dalby. COLLATION: xii, [2], 134, [8] pp. CONDITION: Fine in Fine dust jacket. ** Modern limited edition of an anthology of ghost stories by Alice Perrin (1867-1934), an Indian-born, English author of novels and short stories. She was sent by her parents to be educated in England, but returned to India where she married an engineer, Charles Perrin, who worked for the India Public Works Department. Charles was put in charge of building an aqueduct in the jungle, and so Alice Perrin took to writing as a way to alleviate boredom. Her collection of ghost stories, "East of Suez" (1901), was compiled and published after her return to England, and she continued to write novels and stories about her time in India. ** The title story, "The Sistrum", has a junk-shop collector finding an African musical instrument which, having been used in sacrificial ceremonies, carries its own memories. Other stories include: "Caulfield's Crime", "Chunia, Ayah", "Powers of Darkness", "The Admiral's Dog", "Old Ayah", "The Brahminy Bull" and "The Footsteps in the Dust". Like others of these stories, "The Footsteps in the Dust" is set in colonial India, and paints an unflattering picture of one Captain Bogle, who took advantage at cards of Gunga Pershad, a merchant, and so inherited a small fortune. but only for a short while! ** Sarob Press is a small press which has published reprints of classic ghost and horror stories, as well as contemporary authors. This book is part of a series reprinting works by neglected, but worthy, woman ghost-story writers, the so-called "Mistresses Of The Macabre". Book.

COLLATION: xii ,[2],124,[6] pp. CONDITION: Fine in Fine dust jacket.** Modern limited edition of an anthology of late Victorian ghost stories by the mysterious writer, Mary E. Penn. As she mainly wrote for the monthly magazine, The Argosy, owned by the prolific novelist, Ellen Wood (1814-1887), there is conjecture that they were one and the same. In any case, these stories are classic ghost stories; "In the Dark" concerns a nefarious deed and a tortured spirit, which finally finds a way to be set free.** Sarob Press is a small press which has published reprints of classic ghost and horror stories, as well as contemporary authors. The original publication was a cheaply-bound "yellowback", designed to be sold at railway stations and the like, with the result that very few have survived. This new collection includes the first book publication of another story, "The Blue Room". Lettice Galbraith, born Lizzie Susan Gibson, was a short-story writer and novelist. She tackled social issues affecting women, such as marriage and independence. But she returned every now and then to occult matters, such as in the 1906 "psychic detective" novel, "Burnt Spices."
