Frontis illus. of Vol. I shows Moses Recieving the Tablets and Frontis of Vol II Christ overturning the Tables in the Temple. Also some decorative Tailpieces. Text arranged in Double Columns. 13 Plates are in the Old Testament and 11 Plates in the New Testament. The New Testament has its own Title Page. Index at the back. Contemporary Brown Full-Leather Binding, Recases with later Leater on spine. 5 Raised Bands to spines which retain original Title Tables and Vol. Nos. Gilt Title on Black ground in 2nd Compartments. 16" Tall. Unpaginated, the books are about 2 1/2" and 2 3/4" Thick. Some edge wear, mainly at corners. Text block firm. Very small creases to tips of corners on a few pages. Previous owner's inscriptions on endpapers. No other inscriptions. Only a very occasional spot of foxing. No pagination, bound in contemporary blind stamped calf with early joint repairs; all edges and endpapers marbled, front blank repaired near gutter; some internal soiling, older paper repair to lower corners of the first and last several leaves; 3 leaves with lower fore-corners chipped, one affecting a few words, and one a side note. An early edition, not in Darlow and Moule and quite scarce. An interesting two page manuscript laid in, neatly written and titled "A Novel Calculation" citing the author, notes, calculations of the number of books, chapters, verses, words, letters, etc. in both the new and old testament, dated 8th December 1864.
