Uniformly bound in smart full vellum, with gilt detail, by Tepper. With an engraved portrait frontispiece, and facsimile of John Milton's handwriting in volume one, and two plates in volume four. The poetical works of John Milton, with notes from various authors, and with some account of the life and writings of Milton, derived from original documents in Her Majesty's State-Paper Office. Edited by the Rev. Henry John Todd, an English cleric and librarian at Lambeth Palace. John Milton was an English poet and civil servant for the Commonwealth of England, later under Oliver Cromwell. His epic poem 'Paradise Lost', written in blank verse, is renowned and hailed as one of the greatest works in English literature. Uniformly bound in full vellum. Externally, very smart with some very light rubbing to the extremities. Marks to the vellum. Internally, firmly bound. Light offsetting to the title page of volume one, caused by the frontispiece. Pages lightly age-toned to the edges but otherwise very bright and clean. Small ink marks to the front blanks of volume four, with a very small mark to the title page. Staining to the plate facing page 33 in volume four, with some light offsetting to the pages surrounding it. Very Good Indeed. book.
