However, the Reformation brought this collaboration to an end due to the English Reformation's stance against papal influence. German craftsmen became the primary source of foreign influence in this period, though their work was largely focused on domestic architecture. The book follows the popularization of the Renaissance style under Inigo Jones, whose work set a new standard for English architecture. However, even as Renaissance architecture took hold, Gothic architecture continued to be practiced in England, as seen in the work of Sir Christopher Wren and the Oxford colleges. The volume concludes by discussing the era of Gothic revival in the 18th century, which, though lacking true Gothic sentiment, produced some noteworthy structures. Overall, this book provides an engaging perspective on architectural evolution in England during a transformative period.
