Antibiotics are used irresponsibly at every opportunity to treat viral and even mild infections. Accordingly, antibiotics have been used in massive amounts in agriculture as a preventive provision against bacterial diseases and to promote the growth of animal feedstock such as poultry, beef and pigs, respectively. Present findings suggest the role of conjugative plasmids as contributors to maintenance and spread of adaptive traits (pesticide tolerance/metal and antibiotic resistance) in microbial communities. In this study, transconjugants isolated by exogenous plasmid isolation in biparental mating indicates that genes for the tolerance of pesticides and metals/antibiotic resistance can be distributed by conjugative plasmids in the natural environment. Our results suggest that wastewater and soil at an industrial area near a pesticide industry contained certain genotoxic agents which are capable of inducing mutations. 140 pp. Englisch.

Bacopa monniera (Bm) is one of the miracle herb commonly grows in marshy areas throughout India. In the traditional Ayurvedic medicine it is used for treatment of ulcers, tumours, enlarged spleen, indigestion, inflammation, leprosy, anemia, epilepsy and asthma. Hence, the authors made an attempt to synthesize silver and gold nanoparticles by using Bacopa monniera. In deze studie geven transconjuganten geïsoleerd door exogene plasmide isolatie in biparentale paringen aan dat genen voor de tolerantie van pesticiden en metalen/antibiotische resistentie kunnen worden verspreid door conjugatieve plasmiden in de natuurlijke omgeving.
