First edition. 63pp. Robert Rendall (1898-1967) was a Scottish poet, and amateur naturalist who spent most of his life in Kirkwall, Orkney. Orkney Variants is his second collection of poems, and is divided into the following sections: Poe…ms in Dialect, Orkney Variants, Poems in English, and Tailpiece. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with some tape staining near the top of the spine and top edge of up to about 2" of the boards (this has been taken from tape holding an old protective cover for the dustwrapper). The contents are tight and clean with a name on the top edge of the front free endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some light soiling and the spine is faded. There are two scrapes that have caused some small holes near the fore edge of the front of the wrapper. It is in a removable clear plastic fronted protective cover.

The bottom of the spine is lightly bumped. The contents are tight and clean and the author has flat signed the half-title page. There is a name on the top edge of the front free endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some light soiling and the spine and top 1/2" are slightly faded. The wrapper is in a removable clear plastic fronted protective cover. Worldcat identifies just 13 copies in libraries worldwide of the first edition. A very good teal cloth hardback with very minor bumping. Small area of sunfading to the tail of the spine - around 4mm high. The dustjacket is intact with some wear and nibbles along the top edge. Age toned to spine and fold areas. The jacket is covered with removable plastic. All soundly bound. Light offsetting to endpapers. Previous owner's signature and date to first blank. Text is clean and bright throughout. The edge of the text block is age spotted. A nice example of an uncommon first edition. Text in English. x + 11-200pp. Approximate dimensions: 224mm high x 150mm wide x 27mm deep. Weighs approximately 406g (unpacked). More photos on request.
