Añadir al carritoFirst edition, one of 300 copies. First edition, one of 300 copies. Illustrated with photographs and old plates. xii, 349 pp. 1 vols. 4to. The Coaching Club was founded in 1875 by a number of prominent men including James Gordon Bennett, William Jay, and Leonard W. Jerome (one of whose daughters became the mother of Winston Chur…chill); its purpose was to encourage four-in-hand driving in America. In this it was highly successful and for decades sponsored outings and trips that were not only social occasions but served to popularise the sport until the advent of the automobile made coaching on public roads an infrequent ceremonial. One of the mainstays of the Club in the early 1900s was Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt until his untimely death in the sinking of the "Lusitania" in 1915. No expense was spared to make this book, written by the President of the Club, a worthy monument to the sport and the men who made it; as a Derrydale production it is, notes Frazier, "fine and rare.this book doesn't show up often [particularly true of the deluxe edition], and it is a beauty.". Siegel 89; Frazier R-7-a Original green cloth, gilt Club medallion stamped on upper cover, tan cloth spine. Fine copy in superior condition Illustrated with photographs and old plates. xii, 349 pp. 1 vols. 4to.
