1st ed. Hardback small quarto, dustjacket, good plus condition (in good dustjacket), paper-covered boards, full-page colour drawings, colour endpaper map, few edge tears jacket (small loss fold ends, few toned spots reverse side), tape scuff mark front endpaper (pastedown little bubbled), pages lightly toned, some edgewear, book…shop sticker, protected by removable semiarchival plastic sleeve. 44 pp. A children's story by Leslie Rees about baby Kurri Kurri the kookaburra who lived in the bush with his family in eastern Australia. One day after he had learnt to laugh, but before he could fly, Kurri Kurri and his friend Karloo were kidnapped by men. They were taken all the way across the country as pets to Blackswanland [Western Australia], which had no kookaburras at the time. This story tells how Karloo and Kurri Kurri eventually escaped into the bush and started a family of their own. And so, that is how kookaburras came to flourish in Western Australia! The beautiful illustrations by Margaret Senior will delight. First edition. (No date, but 1950, Trove. Muir 6297. Sticker of Farmer's Bookshop.).
