She too was associated with three group exhibitions of The Brotherhood of Ruralists, namely 'The Continuing Tradition', 'The Secret Garden' and 'Alice'.

René Émile Char (1907 1988) was a French poet and member of the French Resistance. Char was a friend and close associate of the writers Albert Camus, Georges Bataille and Maurice Blanchot, and of the artists Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Victor Brauner. The composer Pierre Boulez wrote three settings of Char's poetry, Le Soleil des eaux, Le Visage nuptial, and Le Marteau sans maître. A late friendship developed also between Char and Martin Heidegger, who described Char's poetry as "a tour de force into the ineffable".

His family had many connections with the literary world of the period: his mother, Brynhild Olivier, had been a member of Rupert Brooke's circle before the First World War and his half-sister was married to Quentin Bell, the nephew of Virginia Woolf.
