Wraps, two issues: 27; 23 pp.; 22 cm; each side-stapled, typewritten and offset on cream stock; black-and-white line drawings, full-page calligraphic alphabet exemplars and hand-drawn decorative borders on every page. In Very Good condition. Cream paper covers with calligraphic titling and line-drawn cover illustrations, mild shelf and edge wear. Rear covers printed as self-mailers with the Raymond's Quiet Press return address: No. 4 addressed in ink to a subscriber in Long Beach, California, with stamp, Albuquerque postmark dated March 3 1978, wavy cancellation carrying across the front cover, and small magenta and green sorting marks at lower left; No. 3 with the address panel blank, never mailed. Faint show-through from the cancellation on the first leaves of No. 4, and a small nick at top corner of its rear cover. Staples tight, spine edges unpunched. Otherwise unmarked. Two issues of the arts and sciences newsletter of the Outlands, a region of the Society for Creative Anachronism, published by Raymond's Quiet Press in Albuquerque and carrying the printed disclaimer "This is not an SCA publication." Both appeared in the opening months of the Principality of the Outlands, invested December 17 1977 and raised to a kingdom in 1986, and No. 3 still directs readers to Atenveldt's Southwind for the Art and Science Fair at Al-Barran that March. The press was founded by Ray Moseley, Sir Raymond the Quiet, to supply the how-to material an SCA member could not otherwise find, and published books and manuals through the 1970s. Practical content throughout: pen-by-pen alphabet exemplars for a Celtic script after the Book of Kells, Gothic capitals and a fourteenth-century liturgical hand, Tolkien's Tengwar adapted to English, a materials list and cutting plan for a folding wide-bodied X-chair, and Katrine de Baillie du Chat's Tudor costume series with patterns for the cap, gable hood and English hood. Both carry the pre-publication notice for the SCA Fighters Handbook at its reserved price of $7.50.
