Hardcover. Condición: Fine. 1st Edition. London: Hudson's Bay Record Society, 1953. Thick 8vo. cvi + 401pp. Folding map. Royal blue gilt crested cloth. Fine. The best source for John Rae's writings on the search for Sir John Franklin. Rae was the first to discover relics of the Franklin Expedition and thus qualified for the 10,0…00 pounds sterling reward. For partly ascertaining the fate of the Franklin party, he eventually received 8,000 pounds. John Rae, originally from the Orkney Islands, and a long-time employee of the HBC, was one of the few explorers who ate, travelled and lived like the Eskimos. Excellent historical introduction, accompanied by Rae's letters written from the Arctic.

One of the publications of the Hudson's Bay Record Society after its break… with the Champlain Society who published the Society's first twelve volumes (1938-1949).
