One of the publications of the Hudson's Bay Record Society after its break with the Champlain Society who published the Society's first twelve volumes (1938-1949). The Society was formed in order to organize and disseminate the Hudson Bay Company's extensive records going back to 1670. The society disbanded in 1983 with Rupert's Island Record Society taking over publishing responsibilities for HBC. Dr. John Rae (1813-1893)was a Scottish physician and explorer who surveyed parts of Northern Canada, including the Northwest Passage, the Arctic coast near Victoria Island, and the Gulf of Boothia near Hudson's Bay.
