Albert Ludwig Wernich (1843-1896), genoss seine medizinische Ausbildung in Königsberg und legte 1868 seine Approbationsprüfung in Berlin ab und liess sich als als Assistenzarzt am dortigen Elisabeth-Krankenhause nieder. Aus dem deutsch-französischen Feldzuge zurückgekehrt, habilitierte er sich an der Berliner Univ. für Geburtshilfe und Gynäkologie und folgte einem Rufe für diese Fach und innere Klinik an die Japanische med.-chir. Akad. in Tokyo (Yedo). Schon auf der Heimreise 1877 wandete er sich epidemiologischen und hygienischen Forschungen zu, habilitierte sich zum zweitenmale in Berlin für spez. Pathologie und Therapie und war die nächsten 4 Jahre vorwiegend lehrend und schriftstellerisch tätitg. 1881 wurde er zum Bezirksphysikus in Berlin ernannt, 1884 als Reg.- und Med.-Rat nach Coeslin, 1891 in gleicher Eigenschaft an das Polizeipräsidium von Berlin versetzt. Wernich gehörte zu den rührigsten und um die Hygiene und Epidemiographie wohlverdientesten deutschen Medizinalbeamten. -cf. Pagel, p.1838f.
