Publisher: Friends of the Mahurangi Incorporated, 2001, 2nd edition. Excellent near new hardback with jacket, no inscriptions. Jacket has some edge-wear, rubbing and creasing, fading to spine. 400 pages, illustrated. "Ron Locker's knowledge of and affection for the Mahurangi River went back to the middle years of the twentieth century, nurtured by the beauty of the area -- some 40 kms north of Auckland, New Zealand -- and by his love of sailing. In this book he shares that knowledge and deepens it with the diligent research he undertook in the final years of his life. Not content with simply describing colonial life on the river, as previous histories have done, he traces its evolution from geologic time, then through the millennium of Maori occupation to the arrival of the European settlers in the mid-nineteenth century ."--Back cover.
