Jürgen Hans Grümmer (1935 bis 2008), früh erfolgreich, bekannt durch sein Mosaik Europa auf dem Stier im Kölner Rathaus und seine Gestaltungen des öffentlichen Raums, ein von künstlerischer Kraft und Potenz strotzender Bildhauer. Als Maler leidenschaftlich und in seiner Bildsprache wortgewaltig, aber leise und zurückgezogen. Weil er die Gesetze des Kunstmarkes nicht kennt, die Spielregeln der Selbstvermarktung nicht beherrscht, nicht kann, nicht will oder verweigert? Grümmer bleibt Zauderer, Zweifler, Zögerer, bis ins hohe Alter ein Getriebener, ständig auf der Suche nach dem Bild, das er noch malen muss. Er bleibt kompromisslos, vor allem gegen sich selbst: Was er tut, tut er mit Blick auf seine Kunst. Wenn er einkauft, dann wird das Gemüse erstmal gezeichnet, die Pfanne mit den Bratkartoffeln in ihrer Struktur betrachtet. Die Zigarilloasche bewahrt er, um sie in Farbe einzurühren. Der Kaffee ist extra stark, fürs kolorieren, nicht zum Trinken. Traubenrispen, Orangenschalen, zerdrückte Dosen und Spinnenhäutungen, nichts wird weggeworfen, bevor es gezeichnet ist. Wenn er liebt, dann wird die Frau zur Muse, die er mit Zeichenfeder, mit Kreide, Kohlestift oder Pinsel liebt. Jeder Stein, jedes Strandgut alles atmet in Bildern, inspiriert ihn. Dieser Elan, der ihm im Alltag irgendwann abhanden gekommen zu sein scheint, diese Kraft und die künstlerische Potenz, an der er irgendwann zweifelt, das strotzende Selbstbewusstsein, das sich irgendwann einfach aufgelöst hat, auch das ist Grümmer. Als alter Mann, findet er alles wieder: Kraft und Elan. Irgendwann beweist er sich fast ein Jahr lang, Nacht für Nacht, dass er kleinstformatig arbeiten und als Künstler, selbst wenn er nur noch diese eine Hand bewegen könnte, seine Sprache nicht verlieren wird. Als diese Angst überwunden ist, werden seine Arbeiten wieder großformatig. Und er: Er ist wieder da. Themen und Fragestellungen, die den jungen Grümmer schon beschäftigten, greift der Maler im Verlaufe des Lebens immer wieder auf und führt sie weiter, betrachtet sie von vielen Seiten, verändert Perspektive und Technik, gibt sich erst zufrieden, wenn er meint, eine akzeptable Antwort gefunden zu haben. Und immer wieder ist es das Leben, das was Leben mit Menschen macht, was es ihnen abverlangt, zumutet, wozu es herausfordert, was Grümmer in seinen Arbeiten zeigt. Autor : Jürgen Hans Grümmer wurde am 1935 in Köln als Hansjürgen Grümmer geboren, begann 1952 ein Kunststudium an den Kölner Werkschulen, wo er 1956 aufgrund seiner besonderen Leistungen zum Meisterschüler von Prof. Otto Gerster ernannt wurde. In der Zeit von 1964 bis 1967 konzipierte und gestaltete er den Offenbachplatz vor der Kölner Oper mit dem zentralen Mosaikbrunnen. Auch die Bronzeplatte an der Nordwand des Opernhauses, die an die ehemalige Synagoge erinnert und ursprünglich als Bodenreliefplatte (als Vorläufer der Stolpersteine) konzipiert war wurde von Grümmer entworfen. Nach dem Rückzug aus der Platz- und Stadtgestaltung konzentrierte er sich auf die Malerei mit Ausnahme der Gestaltung der Barbara-Legende, einem Zyklus von sechs Fassadenmosaiken für die Bergarbeitersiedlung Kamp Lintfort. In den neunziger Jahren beschäftigte sich Grümmer mit Serien von großformatigen Zeichnungen Edith Stein, Abakus, Buchstaben und Sätze und schuf ein Triptychon, das als Leihgabe im Kapitelsaal der Kölner Kartause, Kartäuserkirche hängt. Zuletzt war er 2004 mit Luur ens, einer Gemeinschaftsausstellung mit Joachim Rieger, im Kölner Polizeipräsidium in der Öffentlichkeit präsent. Jürgen Hans Grümmer verstarb am 1. April 2008 in Köln.
