19 x 12cm. Paperback, unpaginated [approximately 200pp]. Includes loose fold-out illustration. The book visually records, via speech-bubbles, a "talking-desert event" with an artist group. Many of the photographs are the work of Amman-based photographer Mohammed Zakaria. The folded insert draws upon a 16mm Bolex film of the even…t made by Jeff Preiss. Audio recordings trascripted by Lucia Galaretto and Nora Akawi. From inner flap: "From June 7-9, 2019 CCCP convened in Wadi Rum, Jordan, a spectacular, off-off-campus desert setting, to mark the tenth year of the program's founding. Staged as a reprise of the discussions and community forged through the more public platform of the program-the four CCCP thesis reviews-we called the event The Fifth Review. Launched upon an invitation from Studio-X Amman, directed by Nora Akawi, and organized in collaboration with CCCP, co-directed by Felicity D Scott and Mark Wasiuta, the CCCP@10 celebration was hosted in Bedouin campsites, without wi-fi or cellphone reception but replete with a friendly nocturnal dog. It brought together alumni, faculty, students, and critic-collaborators from earlier reviews to hear alumni present and to collectively talk through research-based practices that the program has sought to foster. The evening we arrived Khyam Allami performed an Oud solo, Abeer Seikaly screened her new film, Matters of Time, Muqata'a performed live, followed by a DJ set by artist Martin Beck. The Fifth Review closed with the opening of an electronic music festival, Sarab (chimera), organized by Interim Projects with Ayed Fadel and Khyam Allami: in addition to performances by Nicol s Jaar and Stephanie Janaina, and a DJ set by Adrian Lahoud, it featured leading experimental musicians from the Arab world, including Muqata'a, Two and the Dragon, Deena Abdelwahed, and much more." Near fine condition. Not in OCLC or Worldcat.
