Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. Offered here is a 1927 reprint of Scott s Last Expedition, published by John Murray. This edition presents the poignant and historic personal journals of Captain Robert Falcon Scott, documenting his ill-fated journey to the South Pole during the British Antarctic Expedition of 1910 1913. Captain Scott s firsthand account provides a gripping narrative of endurance, discovery, and tragedy, culminating in his final, moving diary entries before his death on the return journey. This book preserves the integrity of the original 1913 publication and includes beautiful photographs, offering readers a direct connection to one of the most legendary expeditions in polar exploration. Scott's Last Expedition; The Personal Journals of Captain R.F. Scott, R.N., C.V.O., On His Journey to The South Pole. With Biographical Introduction by J.M. Barrie and a Preface by Sir Clements R. Añadir al carritoReprint. 8vo. xxviii, 521, [2] publisher's ads. Original light blue pictorial cloth boards with gilt lettering and imprint of a penguin to spine. 18 photographic plates including the portrait frontispiece of Scott, maily form photos by Herbert Ponting who was the official photographer on the expedition. Maps inside the front and back cover illustrate the track chart of the main southern journey. With the excellent pictorial dust-jacket showing the classic view of the Terra Nova from inside the glacier taken by Ponting. Apart from a light, vertical crease down the length of the backstrip on the jacket this is a lovely copy in super condition without old inscriptions, etc., just some mild foxing to the edges of the text block. In November 1910, the Terra Nova left New Zealand heading south to Antarctica. On board was an team of explorers led by Robert Falcon Scott, a man determined to be the first to reach the South Pole. A year and a half later, Scott and three members of his team died during a blizzard. Unbeknownst to them, their dream of reaching the Pole first had already been dashed by the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen; now on their return trip, hampered by ill health and bad weather, Scott's party found themselves trapped in a tent without sufficient provisions. Even in his final hours, Scott found the strength to continue the journal he'd begun at the start of his adventures; the diary was found beside his frozen body. Shortly before he died, Scott wrote: "Had we lived, I should have had a tale to tell of the hardihood, endurance, and courage of my companions which would have stirred the heart of every Englishman".
