Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st Edition. Fine unread condition textured maroon boards with gold front cover and spine lettering contained in a fine condition non price-clipped illustrated dust jacket. Includes Dedication; Acknowledgments; Prologue; Introduction to Adventure; Bibliography and Index. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs, maps and line drawings. Signed, inscribed, and dated (3/17/80) by the author, J. Keith Pope, with blue Sharpie/marker on the blank first free front endpaper. "A Series of True Adventures. During the years 1954 through 1964, J. Keith Pope became involved in a series of fascinating adventures that would suffice for two lifetimes! His exploits took him halfway around the world during a decade of adventure and exploration. Starting with the Lehi I Raft venture in 1954, until joining the famous Masada Expedition in 1964, Pope met many of the world's leading explorers and archaeologists. He was at Masada when the latest of the Dead Sea Scrolls were unearthed. In 1955 Pope met John Libi and aided the noted explorer plan his fifth expedition to Mt. Ararat in search of Noah's Ark. In 1960, Pope and John L. Ferris of Walnut Creek, California joined forces with Pablo Bush Romero and CEDAM in search for pirate hero Jean Lafitte's grave in Yucatan. They also visited the underground Toltec worship caves at Chichen Itza and helped raise cannon and other artifacts from sunken galleons in the Ucatan Channel. Pope recently returned to view those artifacts now on display at CEDAM's Museum in Akumal and found the Caribbean much as it was, still beckoning the stout-of-heart to the land of the Mayas. We believe this is one of th most exciting and entertaining adventure books in recent years." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps. "Decade of Adventure includes The Masada Story as featured in the ABC Television Special. Written by volunteer archaeologist J. Keith Pope as great finds were being made at King Herod's Palace in the Negv Desert in 1964. Pope calls the historic event the "First Alamo".many said it was a slaughter. It's the tragic and thrilling story of a band of Jewish Zealots who fought the famed Roman 10th Legion to a standstill for 2 1/2 years before the end.or did it really end as Josephus says it did?" - from the rear outer jacket.
