In addition it can and, I trust, will serve many other purposes for students of the words of Edgar Allan Poe: the analysis of his style and vocabulary, his characteristic and underlying concepts, his broad range of allusion, and his language transformations. There was an obvious need for such a key to the integrated body of his fiction, to accompany the 1941 Bradford Booth Claude Jones concordance to the very small corpus of his poetry."
