This 1834 Whittaker & Co. edition combines Oliver Goldsmith's elegant history of Rome with William Pinnock's structured learning aids, including examination questions and notes on Roman customs. Richly illustrated with wood engravings and detailed maps, the volume traces the city's origins through the fall of the Empire. It stands as a refined example of a 19th-century school book, blending narrative history with essential visual and reference tools. Good/Fair condition. Russet leather binding with gilt titles to spine. Contents are clean with more toning to end papers. Ink stain to bottom fore-edge. Gathering "L" is slightly lose otherwise binding firm. Maps are good with small ink stain to bottom corner. Light edge-wear to extremities with some bumping to corners. Notable ring mark to front board and creasing along spine with small split to spine head.

Full-Leather. Condición: Very Good. 5th or later Edition. Contemporary full leather binding. The title panel on the panel has bright gilt lettering and the gilt decorations on the spine are also bright. The spine has some slight edge wear and there is light rubbing to the corners and edges of the boards which are rather bowed. Browning to the page edges with some dark spotting to the top edges. There is some spotting at the front and back of the book and some browning to the pages which are otherwise generally unmarked.

All pages clean and unmarked except for one small ink flourish on back paste-down; front gutter cracking but text block is intact and volume square--it is possible blank end pages are missing; red boards somewhat bumped on edges; clear gilt lettering on spine reads "Pinnock's Goldsmith's Greece:" some wear along spine, exp. at crown.

Illustrated Title Page followed by a Printed Title Page dated 1826. Contemporary Brown full leather cover, crudely repaired with a wide strip of leather covering the spine and overlapping the boards (see photo). Front hinge cracked and repaired with tape. Text block firm. Pages in very good condition, only a little foxing, mostly to first and last few pages. 6 3/4" Tall Size: 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall.

Paper mildly age-toned and occasionally foxed by strong and of fine quality; text block is firm but gutters are cracked; blue patterned boards moderately work but the cloth on the black spine with gilt lettering is detached, the upper portion missing. This rare and interesting volume deserves to be rebound.
