Softcover. Condición: Good Plus. First Edition. [THEORY]. Ed. Paul Piccone. Contributors: Jurgen Habermas, John Zerzan, Paul Buhle, Russell Jacoby, Joan Landes, et al. "Telos: A Quarterly Journal of Radical Thought, Number 49, Fall 1981 (Vol. 14, No. 3)." St. Louis, MO: Telos Press Ltd., September 21, 1981. English language. Softcover academic journal with nonfiction academic articles, interviews, and book reviews, concerning critical theory, the Frankfurt School, and philosophy. 8 3/4 x 6 inches. 11 oz. 240 pp. Shelf-wear, rubbing, and slight creasing on wrappers and spine. Ink on table of contents. Some minor staining. Text clean. Good Plus. ISSN: 0090-6514. No ASIN. No ISBN. "Relations between critical theory and the independent Left have not always been the most cordial. Especially after the catastrophic 'rediscovery' of Marxism-Leninism more than a decade ago, the disintegration of the New Left has paralleled its growing distance from critical theory. With the development, especially in Germany, of new social movements independent of any traditional class politics and the publication of more immediately political analyses by Habermas and his associates in Starnberg, a rapprochement may be possible. In a long interview with Habermas, Knodler-Bunte, Axel Honneth, and Arno Widmann, try to confront this history while probing Habermas's new book, 'Theorie des kommunikativen Handeln.'".

Magazine. 228p., 5.75x8.5 inches, spine sunned, else very good condition. "A quarterly journal of critical thought". Founded by Paul Piccone (1940-2004) in 1968 while a doctoral student in philosophy at the State University of New York, Buffalo. After earning his doctorate in 1970, he moved to St. Louis for a teaching job, then moved to New York City after not getting tenure. With Piccone as editor, and a number of fellow Buffalo philosophy graduate students and others serving as editorial associates, Telos began publishing important translations (many for the first time), philosophical articles and reviews promoting the Western Marxist tradition, including Frankfurt School critical theory, Phenomenological Marxism, and Marxist Humanism. In the early 1980's Telos began publishing articles that reflected an openness to conservative philosophical and political thought , signaling for many an editorial shift to the political "right" by, for example, publishing articles by and about Carl Schmidt, etc.

Paperback. 192p., wraps, 5.75x8.5 inches, very good condition. In the early 1980's Telos began to publish articles that reflected an openness to conservative philosophical and political thought , signaling for many an editorial shift to the political "right" by, for example, publishing articles by and about Carl Schmidt, etc.
