Parsons, detto Andrea Philopater (gesuita nato in Inghilterra nel 1546, stabilitosi a Roma ed ivi morto nel 1610, dopo aver contrastato gli eretici in patria per lunghi anni), all'editto della regina Elisabetta I, promulgato il 29 novembre 1591, contro la religione cattolica. Fin dall'ascesa al trono nel 1558 la regina Elisabetta I, figlia di Enrico VIII ed Anna Bolena, la "bastarda" agli occhi dei cattolici, ristabilì subito la chiesa anglicana. Scomunicata da Pio V nel 1570, prese a perseguitare cattolici e puritani con sempre maggior violenza. L'assassinio della sua rivale e pretendente al trono, Maria Stuarda, nel 1587, la vittoria sulla "Invencible Armada" nel 1588, ed infine quest'editto del 29 novembre 1591, sancirono la rottura totale e definitiva con Roma. He was a major figure in establishing the 16th-century "English Mission" of the Society of Jesus. Andream Philopatrum, presb. ac theol. Romanum, Lvgduni, 1592. This Latin work was a detailed rebuttal of a proclamation of Elizabeth I of October 1591, against seminary priests and Jesuits. It was published under the pseudonym Andreas Philopater.
