Nebehay-W. 407.- Älteste gedruckte Ortsansicht der Stadtgemeinde Peuerbach im Hausruckviertel. Ursprünglich im Ostteil des Herzogtums Bayern liegend, gehörte der Ort seit dem 12. Jahrhundert zum Herzogtum Österreich. Peuerbach erhielt im Jahr 1280 das Marktrecht.

Bildausschnitt ca. 15 x 20 cm. Peuerbach wurde 1120 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Ende des 12. Jahrhunderts war die Burg bereits im Besitz der Schaunberger. 1669 ging Peuerbach an den Hofkammerpräsidenten Georg Ludwig Graf Sinzendorf. Wegen der von ihm begangenen Verbrechen wurden seine zahlreichen Besitzungen von der Hofkammer konfisziert. Peuerbach wurde 1684 vom Hofkanzler Dietrich Althet Heinrich Freiherr von Strattmann erworben. Im Schlosshof steht ein Denkmal für den bedeutenden Astronomen und Mathematiker Georg Aunpeckh von Peuerbach (1423 1461). Der auf dem Vischer Stich ersichtliche, ca. 40 m hohe Schlossturm wurde auf Grund von Bauschäden bereits 1777 abgetragen.- Kräftiger Abzug.

Im 15. Jahrhundert wurden die Planetenbewegungen nach Ptolemäus und dessen Epizykeltheorie intensiv diskutiert und es wurde nach Verbesserungen gesucht. Dies war einerseits notwendig, weil sich das Sonnenjahr immer weiter vom Julianischen Kalender entfernt hatte und eine Kalenderreform erforderte, andererseits waren für die Schiffsnavigation genauere Sternbücher" notwendig. Durch beide Erfordernisse lebte damals die beobachtende Astronomie wieder auf, und diese wurde von Peuerbach verkörpert. .
