This is a Journal of a Cruise on the Brazils (offshore Brazil) on Board the U.S. Ship Delaware 1841-42 and Notes by the Way While on Board the U.S. Schooner Enterprise. Johnson joined the navy in 1841 and kept journals until 1844. He left the service to help set up the State government in Wisconsin and later went into business there, only to join the Wisconsin army in the Civil War, joining Grant's staff only to fall ill from camp life and die in 1863. This is a daily journal of Johnson's sea and shore sights and sounds along with personal sketches to go along with his writings. A clean very presentable copy with many uncut pages in the textblock top making this an unread copy.
