Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores water quality and nutrient data collected in the Shark River Slough, a critical freshwater ecosystem within Everglades National Park, from 1972 to 1980. The authors utilize various statistical analyses to evaluate seasonal, geographic, and temporal trends in nutrient… concentrations, presenting a comprehensive assessment of water quality dynamics in the slough. Despite hydrological alterations in the area, the study reveals that nutrient levels have remained relatively stable thanks to the marsh system's capacity for nutrient retention and the absence of significant point source pollution. The book contributes to the understanding of nutrient cycling and water quality maintenance in freshwater wetlands, emphasizing the importance of preserving these ecosystems for their role in nutrient retention and water filtration. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book unravels the environmental story of the Turner River, a small stream in the vast Everglades ecosystem of south Florida. Construction of a road and canal in the 1960s disrupted the river's natural flow, cutting it off from its water sources and causing saltwater intrusion. The… author, a National Park Service hydrologist, conducted field investigations to determine the effects of these alterations and suggest restoration plans. The book delves into the hydrologic impacts of the canal, describing how it lowered groundwater tables, disrupted surface water flow, and reduced river stages and flow rates. The author presents data collected during field studies to illustrate these impacts and discusses their consequences for the surrounding wetland and river ecosystem. This book goes beyond a mere documentation of the river's alteration. It also provides a glimpse into the broader efforts to restore the Everglades ecosystem and protect its unique natural heritage. The author presents a detailed plan for restoring the Turner River and its surrounding watershed, addressing water quantity and quality issues. The book serves as a valuable resource for understanding the environmental challenges facing the Everglades and the importance of restoration efforts in preserving this iconic ecosystem. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents the results of a correlation study of water level gauge systems in the Shark River Slough region of Everglades National Park. Linear regression and correlation analysis were used to compare data from 54 staff gauges and 16 continuously recording gauges. The study det…ermined that continuous recording gauges can be used to estimate water level at the staff gauge locations with an acceptable degree of accuracy. Regression equations and confidence intervals are presented for all station pairings meeting minimum criteria for water level estimation. Correlation analysis also highlights distinctions in water level relations in hydrologic sub-units of Shark Slough and the surrounding area. The information derived from this study can be used to determine which continuous recording gauges are essential for continued hydrologic monitoring in Shark Slough as well as to provide predictive relationships between nearby gauges to decrease the need for wide-scale monitoring. The author's findings enhance our understanding of the complex hydrology of the Shark Slough region, a critical component of the Everglades ecosystem. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a methodology for the classification of the hydrobiological systems within the Shark River Slough in Everglades National Park. Using LANDSAT imagery, the author implemented a multispectral analysis technique from which he generated flow vectors for water movement thr…oughout the slough. These findings contributed to the understanding of the influence of the hydrological regime on the park's ecosystem. Ultimately, the author produced hydrobiological and flow vector maps, which facilitated the development of a sound water resources management program for Everglades National Park. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
