Añadir al carritoHard Back. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Dust Jacket As Published. Edition Not Stated. 160 Pages. Top left corner appears to have received a blow, maybe a box placed on it, causing a crease about 4 inches long diagonally across that corner. Also caused a 1 inch tear to the title page at the spine. The title page is the first page in this book. Does not seem to affect the rest of the book except the first 4 or 5 pages. Beyond that is a flawless interior. No marks or stamps. Bright front cover with a very attractive color photograph of the Boeing 75 Kaydet owned by Fred Wilson. The popular Stearman was photographed by Berl Brechner at the Flying Circus Aerodrome in Bealeton, Virginia. The book is a chronological compendium of Bowers' autoritative reviews of historical aircraft that have helped shape the world of aviation, from the warbirds that mustered out of World War I and introduced Americans to aviation to more recent designs whose progeny fly with today's general aviation fleet. An abundance of aircraft facts, figures and anecdotes --- plus over 200 great original photographs --- are joiined by a lively narrative of the events and people that influenced the direction and growth of civil aviation over the years. Covered are such well-known airplaces as the immortal Jenny, the famous Lockheed Vega and the ubiquitous Boeing Kaydet we know better as the Stearman, along with others that may not be as familiar but nevertheless deserve a place in the annals of aviation. Some of these are the Swallows, the Gee Bee Sportsters and the Cubs that Mr. Piper didn't build. As a change of pace you'll find interspered here and there a number of special background features that can help bierng the atmosphere of the early daysmore sharply into focus. Aircraft control systems, for example, were not always standardized into the stick or wheel and rudder we know today. Switching from one airplane to another back in the teens meant a lot more transition than learning wehre the switches were. Or how about the tail skid? Bowers' interesting treatment of that bygone appendage puts you in the cockpit when the only brakes pilots had were embodied in that subby anchor in the back.
