Leather. Condición: Near Very Good. Book measures 20.5x13cm. 131pp,1pp errata, folding map. Bound in full leather. At some time the book has been rebacked, retaining the period boards, raised bands, gilt lines and centre stamp. Boards heavily rubbed, some minor loss on corners. Binding in very good clean firm condition. Internal…ly, map repaired in several places, with minor loss, map placed in the book upside-down. Pages in good condition. A good copy, in a good solid binding. Size: 8vo.
Editorial: Printed for Benj.Tooke, London and sold by J.Peele, London, 1721. Modern rebind in full brown leather. Five raised bands to spine. Gilt titling and to the front board. 8.25ins x 5.25ins, replacement endpapers, 131pp plus folding map. Errata slip pasted to verso of final page. Map has been laid down with old tear neatly repaired. Map closely trimmed to edges. Title page has vertical crease. Split to centre of pages 3/4 - but text still legible. Pages are browned. A few old ink notes/corrections to the margins. Despite these defects this is a very attractively presented copy of a scarce title., 1721

London: Benjamin Tooke, 1716. Hardly seems a maritime work but, according to the DNB, "Perry arrived in Russia in the early summer of 1698. He was first employed to report on the possibility of establishing a canal between the rivers Volga and Don. the work was begun in 1700. early in 1702 [he was] ordered to Voronej, on the rig…ht bank of the river of that name, to establish a dock. This was completed in 1703, after which Perry was employed in making the Voronej river navigable for ships of war from the city of Voronej to the Don. To 1710 Perry made surveys and engineering work about the river Don." According to this account, the Czar stiffed him, paying him only one year's salary for fourteen years of work. Perry takes his revenge in the introduction to this account. Cox, I, p. 192. The large folding map by Herman Moll (bound in upside down during rebacking) is in excellent condition, as is the rest of the book. Bound in old mottled calf, rebacked to match, with spine label. 19.5 cm. (5), 280 pp. b/w folding map.
