Lyrics printed in and over the music in both English (with Yiddish accent, translated by Joseph I. Tanzman) as well as romanized Yiddish. The second page bear…s a "Concert Romance" by publisher and composer Albert Teres, as well as simplified arrangements of "Schubert's Celebrated Serenade" and part of "La Traviata." Albert Teres was among the earliest Yiddish music publishers in the U.S., and became part of the bedrock of Jewish life and culture in America for the waves of immigrants who had settled in the city in the mid-late nineteenth century. The Lower East Side was a vibrant hub of Yiddish-speaking culture, with thirteen theaters (many of them vaudeville houses) producing significant-or sometimes simply prolific-Yiddish authors and composers, including Joseph Rumshinksy, the "Father of Yiddish Operetta," playwright and composer Anshel Schorr, singer and songwriter David Meyerowitz, longtime collaborators in Yiddish theater Arnold Perlmutter and Herman Wohl, playwright, director, and actor Abraham (Avram) Goldfaden, and others.
