Brady was founder and chairman of the Brady Lumber Company and Brady International Lumber, Inc. in Seattle. A graduate of Yale, he was awarded the Yale Medal in 1952. Inscription reads, "For our good friends Mary + Hugh Brady - with warmest regards from Virginia + Ernest / Hugh - You knew Alaska long before I did [signed] Ernest".
