2 volumes, large 8vo, pp. 211-277, [1] (i.e. 68 pages); 17 plates (1 in color, some composite); pp. 237-261, [1] (i.e. 24 pages); 12 plates (some composite); together, 2 voolumes, original printed green wrappers; light toning of the text, edges of wrappers a bit faded; all else very good and sound. Issued as volume 50, no. 8 (March 1933); and, volume 52, no. 3 (November 1933) in the publisher's Philippine Journal of Science series. "In August 1930, sclerotia of a soil-inhabiting fungus os the genus Sclerotium were found clinging to a dead mango seedlings in a neglected nursery in Muntinlupa Plantation, Rizal Province, Luzon. The fungus appeared to be of little pathological significance, and was not investigated at the time. In the latter part of May, 1931, the nursey was cleaned and a few thousand mango seeds planted, the seedlings to be used for replacements in a new mango plantation. During the second half of June, following unusually wet weather, a severe outbreak of Sclerotium disease occurred on these plants. The sclerotia produce by the fungus appered to be identical with those found in August, 1930, in the same nursery. Several of the seeds failed to germinate and many of the seedlings died. The disease progressed rapidly in July, as the seedbeds were always wet during this month of heavy precipitation" (p. 237).
