Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book is a study and analysis of the Java Rhopalocera, or butterflies, which the author collected and studied during his 28-year residence in the Malay archipelago. The author approaches the subject from a naturalist's perspective to expound on the study of the evolution and morphology of butterflies, challenging traditional theories like mimicry and warning colors. With the author's extensive experience and naturalist's observations, the book unveils a wealth of new information on the behavior and life history of these insects in Java, exploring the theories of evolution and mimicry, presenting a new perspective based on the study of butterflies and their evolutionary development. Meticulously researched and the result of extensive, firsthand study, this book explores the evolution of butterflies from a new perspective, explaining their behavior and appearance in fascinating detail. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of butterflies, exploring the evolution of their colours and forms. The author challenges the common practice of attributing every slight variation to "local influences" and argues that the evolution of colours and shapes in butterflies is a complex and fascinating process governed by a specific set of rules. The book goes beyond a simple cataloguing of species and delves into the deeper mechanics of natural selection, exploring how the environment influences the development of colours and forms through a process of gradual change over time. The author, who is clearly a passionate observer of butterflies, presents a strong argument for his theory of colour evolution by carefully analysing specific examples of colour patterns and their variations across different species and locations. This book provides a compelling look at the intricate world of butterflies and a unique perspective on the workings of natural selection. This is a must-read for anyone interested in understanding the intricate and beautiful processes of evolution. Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book focuses on the evolutionary processes of Javanese Rhopalocera, particularly the Lycaenidae and Erycinidae families. The author, a pioneering entomologist, challenges the conventional wisdom of his day, arguing that many species we now recognize as distinct are in fact different stages of the same evolutionary process and are not separate species at all. The author presents a wealth of evidence to support his claim, including detailed observations of the morphology, behavior, and genetics of these butterflies. He shows that many of the physical characteristics traditionally used to distinguish species, such as wing shape and color patterns, are actually highly variable and can change dramatically over time. These insights have profound implications for our understanding of evolution. They show that the process is not a linear progression from one species to another, but rather a complex and dynamic interplay of factors, including natural selection, sexual selection, and genetic drift. The author's work also underscores the importance of studying organisms in their natural habitats, where they are subject to the full range of environmental influences that shape their evolution.
