Irish author and clergyman Caesar Otway (1780-1842) travels throughout Ireland to provide a description of life and the Irish people in the early part of the nineteenth century. His aim was to shed light on the conditions of the poor, and… to attempt to improve the lives of those living in the poverty. His writing is both humorous and sympathetic, painting a realistic and interesting look at parts of his home country that were not often traveled or written about. This is one of the earlier travelogues about Ireland before the Great Famine.
