Hardcover. Condición: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. A spirited defence (which 'irrefragably proves') of the role of the father (Mr William Hedley) of the author as the 'inventor of the locomotive engine on the present principle.' Dark coloured (navy blue/black) morocco bound boards and spine with gilt titles on the upper board;…framed above and below by subtle embossed patterning - see main image. Internally, lemon yellow endpapers and pastedowns - elegant typography. Five black and white illustrative plates; including a spectacular fold-out side view of the Wylan Engine as a frontispiece (see image). A notes section includes a couple of tables. Condition (external): in a good state but some edgewear and markings/fading on the boards; especially the upper one. Condition (internal): generally the binding is tight but there is a gap between the front paste down and ffep; revealing some of the book's binding materials/mull. The pages are generally mildly to moderately tanned with occasional foxing - the latter being more evident on the preliminary and final pages. Some minor pencil markings on the front pastedown and endpapers. More images (and information) are available on request. pp. 92 (paginated) followed by four of the b/w plates. 8vo (c). Assume to be a first edition. Please note that, depending on destination, we may request a payment to cover any extra shipping & postage charges. Proceeds to Amnesty International. Abe2601.
