Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - This historical novel is about Ian Black, a young Second Lieutenant in the British Army, who arrives in Cyprus in the middle of the 1950s Emergency, after graduating from MONS, and is assigned to the Royal Artillery 188th Radar and Searchlight Battery. His first mission is to manage a radar site on the northwest coast of the island. As he travels on the narrow road to the camp, his convoy is ambushed and he has to use all his army skills to survive. While in the Nicosia BMH, recuperating from his wounds, he meets a nurse, the beautiful Aphrodite Palas. Upon returning to duty as the OIC for Camp Pomos, he comes face to face again with EOKA terrorists. Due to his fluency in the Greek language, Ian is recalled from Camp Pomos and transferred to the Intelligence Corps. In order to find the whereabouts of the EOKA leadership, including the infamous Grivas, newly promoted First Lieutenant Black has to prowl the back streets and alleys of Nicosia. In addition, to help prevent the smuggling of arms into the island, he has to fly on a RAF Shackleton search plane over the Mediterranean and travel to Beirut, Lebanon to look for the source of the arms. Twice, Ian saves the Governor-General of Cyprus from assassination attempts by the terrorists. Through the efforts of Lieutenant Black and others, the safe house where Grivas is hiding is finally located in Limassol. A plan is formulated so that they can capture him alive but, at the last minute, politics ends up trumping military action. This book by the Osborns shows that one man can make a difference, even in dangerous times.

Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - British Army intelligence officer Ian Black finds himself in Berlin, just as it is heating up during the Cold War, in the latest historical military thriller from bestselling authors Richard and Barbara Osborn. For the past few years, Lieutenant Ian Black has plied his trade during the Cyprus Emergency of the 1950's. Now, in Berlin, he is almost trapped in the communist part of the city, with a female acquaintance, when the Berlin Wall is suddenly erected by the East Germans, on a Sunday morning. After hearing from a dying man on the U-Bahn that there is a traitor somewhere in the West, Ian comes up with an ingenious plan to catch a mole and a swallow lurking in a West Berlin organization. He saves a Czechoslovakian ice skater from the Czech secret service as they are trying to drag her back to Eastern Europe. He enters the devil's labyrinth to negotiate a prisoner swap with the Stasi, the East German secret police, which includes the swallow and a British engineer. Lieutenant Black has learned his trade well and is applying the skills he has developed in almost every situation he comes across. The Osborns mix military facts and Cold War politics, in a way that thrills the readers and makes the novel come alive with realistic historical events.

Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - After working in military intelligence and then making a career at a large aerospace company, Ian Black comes out of retirement to help save the United States, from a president who wants to remain in office for life. President Tuckwell, and his advisor Valda Lewis, develop a heinous plan, which involves a false flag attack on Washington, with deadly consequences for many Americans. Similar to the 1933 scheme by Hitler and the Nazis, the purpose of the president's plot is to be able to declare a state of emergency and justify cancelling the next election. Ian Black, together with the governors of Tennessee and other states, figure out what is going on in Washington and plan a response. They have to stop Tuckwell, before it is too late, from reaching his ultimate goal; to be the first American dictator. This book by the Osborns shows that the quote by Lord Acton in 1887 is true: 'Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.' This novel contains political intrigue, an attack on the homeland, sex and murder.

Very Good Condition Some shelf wear cover/back cover, Out of print, Glue bound, off-set printed, 94 pages Color & Black & white.8 1/2 x 11 inches, 96 pp, illustrated with black and white drawings and photographs. A pivotal issue of Heresies, the feminist journal founded as a collective in 1975 and published from 1977 to 1993. Organized through a non-hierarchical editorial model with rotating groups of artists, writers, and filmmakers, the publication operated outside the structures of the mainstream art world. Editorial meetings took place across downtown New York loft spaces from the late 1970s through the early 1990s, grounding the project within artist-run networks rather than institutional frameworks. Issue 16 turns to film, video, and emerging media at a critical moment of technological and cultural transition. As video became increasingly accessible, the publication foregrounds women not as subjects of representation, but as producers, editors, and distributors of moving image culture?advancing media as both an artistic and political tool. Contributors include Lizzie Borden, Su Friedrich, Coco Fusco, Yvonne Rainer, and Michelle Wallace, among others, reflecting a wide range of positions across experimental film, video, criticism, and activist media. The issue brings together voices shaped by differing cultural backgrounds, political commitments, and working conditions, emphasizing media as a site of both production and lived experience. Notably includes material related to Lizzie Borden's Born in Flames, a landmark feminist work that embodies the decentralized, collective ethos articulated throughout the publication. Produced outside commercial and gallery systems, Heresies functioned as both platform and network?documenting and shaping a generation of artists working across film, video, and media. Issue 16 remains a key document of early feminist engagement with moving image practices at the intersection of art, politics, and technology.
