Hufeland erkannte, den Nutzen von Praxen von Armenärzten, das spärliche Ausbildungsmaterial der Kliniken zu vergrößern. Hufeland richtete 1810 als Teil der im gleichen Jahr gegründeten Berliner Universität ein bereits so genanntes 'Poliklinisches Institut' ein. Täglich außer Sonntags fanden dort mittags von 11 bis 13 Uhr Konsultationen statt, in denen neue Patienten aufgenommen und untersucht, neue Verordnungen verschrieben und Rezepte ausgestellt wurden. . .''(Wikipedia).
