Agnes Hellners egen uppsats "Antekningar om Orrefors glasbruk". - - - (Publisher:) "At the Paris World Exhibition of 1925 Swedish art glass achieved international recognition. In fact, Orrefors had started experimenting with techniques as early as 1915, inspired by the French artist Emile Gallé's elegant glass. It was the master glass-maker Knut Bergqvist who discovered the technique of graal glass, the smooth, brilliantly coloured glass whose interior reveals the decor. The technique of graal and the engraved glass of the 1920s laid the foundations for the company's worldwide reputation with artists Simon Gate and Edward Hald, and, from the 1930s, Vicke Lindstrand and Edvin Öhström. The necessary conditions for the pioneering work at Orrefors were created when Consul Johan Ekman became owner of the glassworks in 1913. His personal interest in and enthusiasm for the work of production was shared by his daughter Agnes who married the Appeal Court Judge Johannes Hellner. When Johan Ekman died, his children inherited the works and Agnes Hellner's husband became chairman of the board. Agnes Hellner closely followed developments at Orrefors throughout her life, She started to collect glass from the works at an carly stage. Her collection - owned today by Stiftelsen Kungstenen - is substantial and well reflects the creative decades from the 1910s to the 1930s. It was during these years that artists began to take responsibility för designing the wares - beautiful items för everyday use became a key concept, sulphate glass from Orrefors and soda glass from Sandvik are also prominent in Agnes Hellner's collection. A Love of Glass presents the in its entirety: 700 items from Orrefors and Sandvik are reproduced, 125 of them in colour with descriptive texts. The introductory chapters describe the origins of the collection and the development of art glass. Agnes Hellner's own notes and the master glass-maker Knut Bergqvist's narrative help to conjure up a picture of an unusually viable craft".
