Koekoek. First edition. The work was originally published in 46 parts representing figures of all forms of wild birds observed in their natural surroundings in Holland. Since Schlegel issued his work "De vogels van Nederland", no comprehensive atlas of the birds of the Netherlands had been published. Each plate contains several figures of birds, the sexes, different ages, and, when necessary, seasonal variations are figured (Anker 381).
