He served for a time as refuge manager for the US Biological Survey at the Okefenokee. In the 1920's and 30's Greene kept detailed notes on bird observations in the Atlanta Georgia area. From these note he published "Birds of the Atlanta, Georgia, Area", one of the first annotated bird checklists for the state, and was co-author of the first formal checklist for Georgia birds, published in 1945. She begins by stating that she thinks it was 'nice' of him 'to write about the novel, & about Christopher - he is a ginger coloured, rather fierce baby but most rewarding to look after!' She is 'sorry about the novel', and wonders whether his 'reader could remember it enough to say whether the skeleton of it would possibly make a film scenario & have you any strings in that world (possibly your uncle?) where I could send it?' Though 'bits of it are all wrong' it strikes her as 'a living sort of tale' and she would 'like to get a sale for it somehow'.
