Born on August 1, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, Kahane became known for his strong advocacy of Jewish nationalism, particularly through his formation of the Jewish Defense League (JDL) and his political party, Kach. Kahane's early life was marked by his deep commitment to Jewish identity and a steadfast belief in the necessity of self-defense for Jewish people. He studied at the Mir Yeshiva in New York and later attended Brooklyn College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science. Kahane also pursued a law degree and attended the New York Law School, although he did not complete his legal studies. In 1968, Kahane founded the Jewish Defense League, a militant organization that aimed to combat anti-Semitism and protect Jewish communities. The JDL employed controversial tactics, such as community patrol and counter-protests, which often led to clashes and arrests. Kahane's uncompromising approach towards defending Jewish interests earned both supporters and detractors alike.
