Cover shows a bit of rubbing to edges, a diagonal crease to the lower front panel, a couple of minor creases on spine. -- The Mkomazi Game Reserve in northern Tanzania has great biological significance, representing one of the richest savannas known in Africa and containing many species found nowhere else in Tanzania. Its scenic attractions and biological importance have been recognised by Tanzania's tourism master plan and national wildlife policy. At present, Mkomazi's future is uncertain. To maintain its local, national and international value, it must find ways to accommodate the needs of a rapidly expanding human population with its remarkable flora and fauna. Until now there has been little research on Mkomazi's basic ecology. Starting in 1992, the Tanzanian Department of Wildlife and the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) undertook a five-year study of the Reserve. The findings are presented here, with detailed studies of Mkomazi's physical, biological and ecological attributes as well as two associated studies of pastoral and agricultural activities on the Reserve's margins. The result is one of the most detailed descriptions of an African savanna to be published.
