Añadir al carritoCondición: GOOD. Reprint. Set in 1907 San Francisco, this features Jerry Boyne who investigates the mysterious disappearance, in the middle of his re-election campaign, of District Attorney Ross Garrett, and in doing so, he uncovers a web of crooked cops and corrupt politicians. The fourth T collaboration between Alice MacGowan and Perry Newberry. MacGowan was a prolific author of novels, children's books - and with Newberry of mystery stories. In 1908, she and her sister Grace (her first co-author) were among the first to live in the bohemian village of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Among others there were Jack London, Mary Austin, George Sterling, Sinclair Lewis and many more. Her co-author Perry had been mayor of Carmel. This novel is set in the Sierra foothills, where a man has been arrested for the murder of five people seven years earlier, but even though many of the townspeople have identified him as the fugitive, he insists that he is not that man. One comment about the MacGowan sisters was that while other members of the colony at Carmel might have had higher literary reputations, probably none were as financially sucessful. 311 pp. Good overall in orange boards with gilt lettering (gift inscription inside front cover, some wear to the covers, rubbing to the lettering on the spine, but a tight and sturdy copy), no dust jacket.
