Contents: A Current Affairs, The New Pursuits of British Sculpture -- Made Strange, Ann Elliott -- Langlands and Bell -- Cathy de Monchaux -- Julian Opie -- Rachel Whiteread -- A…lison Wilding -- Craig Wood -- Exhibition List. / For a long time modern British sculpture, and modern sculpture at that, has been represented by the works of Henry Moore. The first important Moore exhibition was staged in Hungary in 1967, in a period when Hungary's modernism was beginning to get back to life after the repressive 50s. Moore arrived just in time and has liberating effect is easily to follow in the evolution of Hungarian sculpture in the 60s and 70s: the scale is wide, ranging from bond to epigonism. The first International Biennial of Small Sculpture was organized in the Palace of Exhibitions in 1971, which later turned itself into a Triennial. British sculptors were represented here with some regularity so their list was augmented with names such as Barbara Hepworth, Lynn Chadwick, Eduardo Paolozzi. In 1987 Michael Sandle won a prize and at the following Triennial in 1990 had a one-man show in the Ernst Museum. It was also in 1987 that the important show entitled Current Affairs was presented in the Palace of Exhibitions which was an endeavour to provide a picture about the changes, trends and personalities of the decade before. Looking at the list of sculptors participating one can see that the elder generation was represented by Anthony Caro and Ian Hamilton Finlay, the middle generation by Michael Sandle and Barry Flanagan, while the new trend in British sculpture was shown by the works of Alison Wilding, Bill Woodrow, Tony Cragg, Richard Deacon and Shirazeh Houshiary. In 1990 the British participants of the Triennial were selected by Ann Elliott of the British Council, the curator of Made Strange as well and Cathy de Monchaux won a prize here.
