Sie ist armenischer Abstammung und wuchs in Teheran, Iran, und Hamburg, Deutschland, auf, wo sie ihre künstlerische Ausbildung erhielt, unter anderem bei Sigmar Polke. 1981 zog die Künstlerin nach New York City und begann dort mit der Ausstellung ihrer Werke. Rima Mardoyen-Smyth arbeitet heute hauptsächlich mit Enkaustik und lebt derzeit mit ihrem Ehemann, dem Bildhauer Ned Smyth, in Sag Harbor, New York. // Der Bildhauer Ned Smyth lebt und arbeitet auf Shelter Island, New York. Geboren 1948 in New York City, wuchs er in New Jersey und Italien auf. Er erwarb einen Kunstabschluss am Kenyon College in Ohio. Er gehörte der Pattern and Decoration-Bewegung an, die Mitte der 70er Jahre begann und sich mit Mustern und Dekorationen in der bildenden Kunst als Reaktion auf den Minimalismus beschäftigte, der von seiner Kunsthändlerin und Galeristin Holly Solomon propagiert wurde.
