The core of the book is a 76 page bibliography (ordered by author) that covers the literature in English from 1744 through 1978. The book includes a good 35 page subject index with general descriptive text and a list of books related to each subject, & a 37 page section listing mountains around the world (grouped geographically) with ascent history and references to the books related to each mountain or range. Books recommended for reading are marked with "*" and there is a list of the author's choice of the 50 best mountaineering books. These sections & features are not included in the 1986 revised edition which greatly increased the number of book entries at the cost of omitting the aforementioned general information features. ALL PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.

This is the first printing (1986 and only printing) of this completely rewritten and reformatted bibliography based on the author's earlier 1978 version. This 1986 edition has a greatly expanded number of listings than that of the 1978 edition, but with less general information and less subject matter information. The 1978 edition has informational sections on subjects. These have been omitted from this 1986 version which is a straightforward bibliography consisting of book listings from cover to cover. Each listing has a very brief description of the contents/subject. The book measures 214mm tall x 135mm and has 296 pages. This remains the best bibliography of English language mountaineering books, indispensable to collectors and those interested in the subject. The main section covers mountaineering non-fiction. Other sections are Guidebooks, Fiction, Journals & Periodicals, Bibliographies, Addenda. There is a short-title index to all of the books and a general index grouping entries into ranges, countries, subjects, etc.

Clean covers, no tears, no rubbing, no owner marks or writing on any pages, no foxing, solid binding. New condition. The book measures 297mm tall x 210mm and has 274 + [3] pages, 3 maps. The book presents a very good history of mountaineering in the Andes, a thorough list of peaks for each country grouped by mountain range with each peak having references to journal/book/mag articles. This includes many unclimbed mountains (at the time of publication). Also included is a massive bibliography grouped by country. This book is a useful source for inspiring expeditions to remote and unclimbed peaks in the Andes, an excellent starting point for anyone interested in such adventure. Use of this book led to more than 10 mountaineering expeditions to remote Andean peaks by the JP team. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
