Softcover.

Paperback. Condición: New. Ever since her student years at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Louisa Clement (b. 1987) has investigated the transformation of human communication, especially in digital space and social media. One of her primary interests is the increasingly widespread display of idealised self-portraits. For her most recent work, entitled Repräsentantinnen/ Representative, Clement has created copies of herself that are as fascinating as they are unsettling. In collaboration with a Chinese company specialising in the manufacture of sex dolls, she commissioned life-sized manikins to be made based on parameters of her body that were calculated with the help of body scans, microphotographs, and video recordings of movements. With movable parts and sexually functional, these dolls not only have the same face as their creator, but are programmed to imitate the artist's facial expressions and to communicate and interact with spectators and the surrounding worldThis publication documents Clement's work and explores various technical, psychological, economic, and ethical questions raised by it. The book also features a sound box that allows it to interact with its readers.Text in English and German.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware -A retrospective of the largely unpublished oeuvre of Sibylle Ruppert, whose hyperrealistic works were inspired by Marquis de Sade and Georges Bataille. Focusing on the largely unpublished and long-overlooked oeuvre of Sibylle Ruppert, offering the most substantial presentation of her work to date, this book documents the growing international attention to Ruppert's work, positioning her oeuvre within a broader art-historical context.Sibylle Ruppert turned childhood fears and wartime experiences into art. Born the night of the first massive bombing of Frankfurt, she spent her early years between nurseries and improvised air raid shelters. Ruppert's richly detailed drawings, paintings, and collages investigate her traumas and the rifts within us they leave behind. Her works reveal a visual language in which bodies menace one another and fuse to produce grotesque creatures. Drawing inspiration from writers like Georges Bataille, Comte de Lautréamont, and Marquis de Sade, as well as the artists Francis Bacon and H.R. Giger, Ruppert created a prolific, surreal, erotic, and dystopian imagery--a singular oeuvre in hues of brown and gray. In 2010, a year before her death, the artist was the subject of a retrospective at the HR Giger Museum in Gruyères. Dark Light on White Shadow pays fresh homage to her oeuvre, which was displayed at Kunsthalle Giessen in 2023. With essays by the editors, among others.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware -Safety First Seit den 1980er-Jahren geht Julia Scher (geb. Safety First Since the 1980s, Julia Scher (b. Hollywood, 1954; lives and works in Cologne) has been investigating the emergence of a 'maximum security society.' Inspired by French philosopher Michel Foucault and sociologist Gary T. Marx, among others, her oeuvre focuses on issues of surveillance and the cyberspace. Since the beginning of her career, Scher has employed a visionary variety of media to demonstrate how much technologies like video surveillance, image recognition, and automated database queries have become ubiquitous and effectively structure our reality. By mimicking common surveillance scenarios, Scher's works invoke promises of increased security and convenience in order to expose the dangers and ideologies of surveillance systems. Scher creates striking and transient web, installation, and performance works that present viewers with urgent questions about power, gender, control, and medial seduction. This comprehensive overview volume applies Lacan's dictum RSI (the Real, the Symbolic, the Imaginary) to Scher's work, examining it regarding the topics Real & Fake, Surveillance & Security & SM, Infrastructures. The publication is a collaboration between Kunsthalle Gießen, Kunsthalle Zürich, Museum Abteiberg, MAMCO Geneva (Muse e d'art moderne et contemporain), and DISTANZ. It accompanies and expands on Scher's most recent exhibitions (2022/23) at the participating institutions with an extensive retrospective and classification of the work since the early 2000s. With text contributions and essays by Paul Bernard, Gesine Borcherdt, Nadia Ismail, Lilian Haberer and Katrin Kaempf, Magnus Schafer, Mark von Schlegell, as well as a foreword by Daniel Baumann, Lionel Bouvier, Nadia Ismail, Matthias Kliefoth, and Susanne Titz. 256 pp. Englisch, Deutsch.…
