Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. Reprint. First published in 1954, this is a twelfth impression of 1961. Some edge wear and chipping to top and bottom of Rees' fabulous retro jacket and spine, corners very slightly rubbed, not price clipped (10s 6d), previous owner's bookplate and inscription to ffep, very slight lean, internally clean and tight, overall a vg++ copy, in bright unsunned jacket reminiscent in style to John Craxton and John Minton, by Welsh artist Brian Rees (b.1930).101pp. Commissioned by the BBC, and described by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas (1914-53), as 'a play for voices' UNDER MILK WOOD takes the form of an emotive and hilarious account of a spring day in the fictional Welsh seaside village of Llareggub. We learn of the inhabitants' dreams and desires, their loves and regrets. The play introduces us to characters such as Captain Cat who dreams of his drowned former seafellows and Nogood Boyo who dreams of nothing at all. It is a unique and touching depiction of a village that has 'fallen head over bells in love'. The First Voice narration reveals the ordinary world of daily happenings and events, while the Second Voice conveys the intimate, innermost thoughts of the fascinating folk of Llareggub. There have been many productions of UNDER MILK WOOD over the years and Richard Burton, Peter O'Toole, Elizabeth Taylor, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Tom Jones have all starred in radio, stage or film adaptations. Scarce with jacket. Jacket by Brian Rees (ilustrador).…

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. FIRST EDITION, FIRST IMPRESSION in book form, signed and dated 1959 by Thomas' close friend and collaborator, Daniel Jones (1912-1993) on the front free endpaper. 'Under Milk Wood' was commissioned by the BBC as a radio drama and broadcast on 25 January 1954, with original songs and musical settings by Jones. In addition to nine pages of facsimile manuscript sheet music at the end of the book, Jones also contributes the preface reflecting on Thomas' death in New York the previous year. From the estate of J. Morys Williams, signed with his initials. Williams was a Classics Master at Swansea Grammar School and taught Thomas, later advising him in connection with the publication of some of his works. He is mentioned in Constantine FitzGibbon's biography of the poet, and in Ralph Maud's 'Dylan Thomas in Print'. Signed by Jones, and with the Morys Williams signature as well, this is a truly exceptional association copy. Octavo. Original brown cloth lettered in gilt to spine. Slight lean, cloth bright, extremities a little rubbed, toe of spine slightly pushed. Unclipped dustjacket with chipping and browning to edges, light creasing and foxing, and with loss to spine panel ends. A very good copy. [Maud B21]. Signed by Author(s).…

Very Good with slight lean to binding, light sunning to spine, light edge wear, several small wax droplets to front cover and faint foxing to textblock edges. Very scarce in this format. The Welsh poet's radio play that takes place in a fictional, decaying Welsh fishing village called Llareggub, an anagram for "bugger all". Set over a 24-hour pub crawl, Thomas evokes an unconventional narrative amongst his character's inner dialogues and dreams. Commissioned by the BBC and first performed in May 1953, Thomas himself read several roles just months before his death. It has since been performed many times, most notably by Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta Jones.…
